Water Alte Schule

Our Story

How it all began...

It all happened in the blink of an eye. It was the beginning of the cold winter days in 2017, and Laudine, the oldest sister, and Martina were discussing in the kitchen. The topic of their discussion was what Laudine's bachelor thesis should be about. It was a hot topic, but after some brainstorming, they had a flash of insight. They decided to turn their house, the old school, into a Bed & Breakfast, just like Martina had always wanted to. Both of them were excited about the idea, and their eyes were glowing with enthusiasm as they discussed their plans. Laudine would write the business plans, while Martina would take care of the rest, including the cooking and organizing of trips for the guests. However, Laudine reminded Martina that it was their home after all, and they needed to make sure they found a good compromise. Martina nodded in agreement, knowing that Laudine was right. Suddenly, Martina closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and opened them again. Laudine knew that this was the moment their lives would change. Martina said, "Ok, let's start with one room, and if that goes well, we'll just go for it."

Since then, we have seen the B&B "Alte Schule" grow and flourish through the changing seasons. Over the years, we have welcomed countless guests from different parts of the world, bringing life to the beautiful village of Dunkesldorf, the old school house, and Martina.

The "Alte Schule" is situated on a stunning 1900m2 property surrounded by woods, fields, and meadows. The red-brick building with white lattice windows and a listed facade offers a calm and homely environment for a relaxing holiday. You can enjoy long walks or bike rides in the fresh Nordic air and visit nearby towns for city strolls and museum visits.

The newly built Swedish-style "Guesthouse" is located in the old school garden, nestled between a beautifully overgrown stone wall and fruit & coniferous trees. The Guesthouse is painted in the same red colour as the old school building, blending in perfectly with the surroundings.

Laudine's and Martina's dream of turning our home into a home for everyone has come true, and now they want to make your dreams come true too!

The Head & Heart

Martina Ahrens

Martina - loving mother, enthusiastic jogger, and devoted managing director of the Guesthouse "Alte Schule".

....and the Support

Rosi

Our Rosi - a dog whose heart lightens up whenever you show her love. Her calm and very cuddely spirit pairs well with her belief of sometimes being a very, very big dog. We are so happy to call her part of our family for almost 15 year now!

Happy - oh, where to start. We adopted this beautiful dog a couple of years ago and have not regretted a single second of our decision. She is spirited, jazzed and lovely and a true member of our family. Happy does indeed make us, and hopefully you, happy!

Lotti

Emmeline, the youngest of the sisters, rescued Lotti from a salesman from the Czech Republic who sold her out of his truck when she was only a couple of weeks old. Happy and Rosi accepted this very lively dog immediately - even though Rosi needed some adjustment time. Lotti is not only brave but cordially and extremely smart. We love having her in our family!

Blues - our newest addition to the family. Josine, the second sister, adopted Blues in 2022 and raised her in The Hague, The Netherlands. Blues is full of life and get along brilliantly with Rosi, Happy, and Lotti and pretty much everyone who wants to play with her. She’s extremely loyal and we’re simply over the moon the call her part of us now.
